Wingate’s Lauren Alley named Volleyball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. ­- Wingate University's Lauren Alley has been named the South Atlantic Conference volleyball Player-of-the-Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon.

An outside hitter for the Bulldogs, Alley led Wingate to a 2-0 record last week with road wins over league rivals Presbyterian and Newberry. The senior hit .353 in the matches, acquiring an average of 3.71 kills-per-game in the process.

A native of Bristol, Tenn., Alley hit at a .455 clip in the win over Newberry and had a team-best 14 kills over PC.

Alley and Wingate ended the game against the Indians with a 10-4 overall mark and a perfect 3-0 record in conference action.

The SAC Volleyball Players of the Week are chosen by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
