Wingate’s Hinson-Knipple Wins Hayes Award
Columbus, Ohio----The University & Northwest Sertoma Club of Columbus has announced the six winners of the 18th Annual Woody Hayes National Scholar Athlete Awards: Michael Munoz, University of Tennessee (NCAA D-1 man); Jennifer Reck, University of Virginia (D-1 woman); Brian Castagna, Bentley College (D-2 man); Lindsay Hinson-Knipple, Wingate University (D-2 woman); Paul Whiting, Amherst College (D-3 man); and Tara Schmitt, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, (D-3 woman).
Hinson-Knipple is the third Wingate winner of the Woody Hayes National Scholar Athlete Award. She joins previous Wingate honorees Ann Hancock ('92) and Nessy Brewer Baker ('96) as Hayes Award winners. Hinson-Knipple is currently studying medicine at Florida State University.
"It is an incredible honor to receive such a prestigious award,"
Hinson-Knipple said. "My experiences at Wingate were truly some of
the best of my life. I am thankful for awards such as these that
recognize that success in academics and involvement in the
community are just as important as athletic achievement."
"My own achievement is not only the result of hard work, but it is
also the result of all of the wonderful faculty and staff at
Wingate University who did everything they did to encourage me to
succeed, both academically and athletically," Hinson-Knipple
added.
The 2004 South Atlantic Conference Presidents Award winner,
Hinson-Knipple earned a $7,500 NCAA postgraduate scholarship for
participants in fall sports. She is currently studying medicine at
Florida State University.
