LR's Ortiz and Coker's Jernigan Take Home SAC WePlayed Sports Indoor T&F Athlete of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the final week of competition. Lenoir-Rhyne's Damyja Ortiz earned the track honor while Coker's Dakota Jernigan garnered field honors.
Ortiz, a junior sprinter from Winston-Salem, N.C., took second in the 400 meters at the JDL Last Chance Invitational with a time of 58.50 seconds. That time is good for the seventh-best in the conference on the season.
Jernigan, a freshman high jumper from Coward, S.C., took first place in the high jump at the USC Invite. Jernigan jumped a personal best and school record with a final height of 1.61 meters. That jump is the sixth-best in the SAC this year.
