Wingate Earns Top Spot in 2020 SAC Women's Tennis Preseason Poll, All-Conference Teams Announced
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate has been voted as the 2020 South Atlantic Conference women's tennis preseason poll favorite, the league office announced today. The League's head coaches gave the Bulldogs seven first-place votes and a total of 128 points.
Tusculum was voted second with four first-place votes and 120 points, while Queens was picked third with one first-place vote and 116 points. Lenoir-Rhyne was voted in at No. 4 with 99 points, followed by Anderson at No. 5 with 86 points.
Lincoln Memorial placed No. 6 with 74 points and Carson-Newman was voted No. 7 with 67 points. Newberry took the No. 8 spot with 65 points, while Catawba was voted No. 9 with 65 points. Coker followed with 50 points at No. 10, Mars Hill was No. 11 with 31 points, and UVa-Wise was No. 12 with 23 points.
The SAC also announced its preseason all-conference teams. The first team doubles partners were Elisa Aguirre and Judit Gonzalez Agud of Newberry, Gemma Southwick and Diana Babinets from Lenoir-Rhyne, and Yana Fleyer and Sasha Davidzenka from Queens.
In singles, Alisa Rudenko of Wingate and Sophie Hirsch of Catawba named first team, along with Ana Carla Resende of Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne's Southwick. Rounding out the first team selections were Fleyer and Davidzenka from Queens.
The 2020 South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis season gets underway on Friday, January 31. The 2020 SAC Women's Tennis Championship is set for April 14, 17-18 with quarterfinals at campus sites and the semifinals and finals taking place at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
