The South Atlantic Conference Places Six Member Institutions in the Learfield Sports Director’s Cup Fall Standings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference placed six member institutions in the 2014-15 Learfield Sports Director's Cup Fall Standings. The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women's and seven men's.
Wingate leads the South Atlantic Conference at No. 7 in the standings with 218 points. Lenoir-Rhyne is currently No. 21 with 142 points, followed by Queens at No. 65 with 75 points. Carson-Newman's 50 points were good for No. 96, while Mars Hill landed at No. 125 with 47 points. Anderson rounds out the list for the SAC as it is tied for No. 135 with 25 points.
Wingate is ranked number one among Southeast Region schools. The Bulldogs received 73 points for a fifth-place finish in volleyball and 50 points each for 17th- place finishes in men's and women's soccer. Wingate garnered 45 points for its 29th place showing in women's cross country.
The Lenoir-Rhyne football team placed No. 9 in the nation to garner 53 points. The Bears' soccer team advanced to the Southeast Regional Final to place ninth in the NCAA and pick up 64 points, while the women's volleyball team placed tied for 33rd to garner 25 points.
The Carson-Newman women's volleyball team picked up 50 points for its 17th-place finish.
The Royals men's cross country team placed 30th in the NCAA and received 44 points, while it's women's individual participants earned Queens 31 points.
The Mars Hill Lions' men's cross country team turned in a 27th-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championship to earn 47 points in the standings.
The Trojans round out the list as they finished tied for 33rd in volleyball to pick up 25 points.
