The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week, Sept. 29

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson forward Lyssa Engle and Newberry forward Gabrielle Brodie have been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Co-Players of the Week for games played Sept. 22-28, the League announced today.

Engle, a freshman from Fairborn, Ohio, kicked in five goals to lead the Trojans to a 1-0-1 record in South Atlantic Conference play last week.  Her biggest game of the week came against Mars Hill on Sept. 27 as she recorded a career-best four goals in Anderson's 4-1 win over the Lions.  Three of her goals against the Lions came in the first half.  Against Queens on Sept. 24, Engle scored the Trojans' lone goal of the contest in a 1-1 double-overtime tie.  The honor is her first Player of the Week plaudit this season.

Brodie, a senior from Canterbury, New Zealand, posted two goals and an assist to lead Newberry to a pair of South Atlantic Conference wins last week.  At Brevard on Sept. 24, Brodie took a Guadalupe Magana assist and beat the Tornado keeper to the near post to put the Wolves on the board in the 24^th minute.  Newberry added another goal to pick up a 2-0 win.  Three days later at then No. 10 Catawba, she connected on a chip shot over the Catawba keeper in the 39^th minute to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead.  She then found the foot of Sabrina Serafin in the 85^th minute as Newberry notched the 3-0 win.  The award is her first Player of the Week selection this season.

Also nominated for Women's Soccer Player of the Week: Megan Jenkins (Brevard), Garcelle Alequine (Lenoir-Rhyne), Kadie Soall (Lincoln Memorial) and Samantha Leonard (Wingate).
