Limestone's Christopher and LR's Thatcher Honored as SAC WePlayed Sports Men's Indoor T&F Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the fifth week of competition. Limestone's Kengel Christopher earned the track honor while Lenoir-Rhyne's Oliver Thatcher garnered field accolades.
Christopher, a sophomore sprinter from Trinidad, Chaguanas, delivered an outstanding performance in the men's 400-meter dash. His time of 46.70 seconds earned him second place and set a new school record for Limestone in the process. Kengel's time was the second-best in all of NCAA Division II this year.
Thatcher, a senior multis from Chandlers Ford, England, won the heptathlon title at the Brest-Cregger Multi Invitational with a total of 4886 points, which is tops in the SAC this year. He won three events – the high jump, pole vault and shot put – and set a new personal best in the shot put. He didn't finish lower than fifth in any event.
