Carson-Newman's Blackmon and Wingate's Morris Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Matthew Blackmon was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Wingate's Tyler Morris was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the fifth week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Blackmon, a sophomore sprinter from Melbourne, Fla., won the 60-meter hurdles at the VMI Winter Classic last week with a time of 8.04 seconds. In addition to winning the event, Blackmon also broke the Carson-Newman 60m hurdles program record by three one-hundredths of a second.
Morris, a freshman jumper from Chesapeake, Va., won the triple jump at the VMI Winter Classic last week with a leap of 15.15 meters. He also placed ninth in the long jump with a jump of 6.78 meters and he competed in the 60-meter hurdles.
