The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Swimmers of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Swimmers of the Week for meets competed in during the first week of the 2023-24 season. Wingate's Natalia Dwojak was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week while Mars Hill's Thomas Gibson was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week.
Dwojak, a sophomore from Lublin, Poland, collected three first-place finishes, including two individual and one relay in Wingate's dual meet with Queens University of Charlotte on Friday. Dwojak won the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:04.70, the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.34, and the 200 Freestyle Relay, swimming the third leg as her team recorded a time of 1:37.24. She also was a member of the 200 Medley Relay that placed fourth with a time of 1:48.93.
Gibson, a senior from Brisbane, Australia, recorded four first-place finishes to open the season. At the King Invite (Sept. 30-Oct 1) he won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 20.61, breaking his own school record of 20.66 set last season. Gibson also took home gold in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 50.91 and the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:40.22. His time in the 200 Free was good for an NCAA DII B-Cut. Gibson claimed his fourth gold on the season in the 200 Freestyle Relay versus Emmanuel on Saturday, leading off the relay with a time of 20.91.
