The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Cross Country Runners of the Week, Sept. 21
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) –Hannah Mercer of Catawba College and Nathan Jones of Mars Hill University have been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Runners of the Week respectively, the League announced today.
Mercer, a freshman from Lexington, NC, recorded the fourth fastest time in school history as she finished with a time of 19:02 on the 5k course at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. She was the fastest runner from the SAC and her second place overall finish helped Catawba finish second as a team. The award is her first Runner of the Week plaudit of the season.
Jones, a senior from Lenoir City, TN, led the Lions to a third-place overall finish in the Montevallo Pre-Region meet. Jones finished fifth overall and first in the SAC with a time of 24:57. Jones is just the fourth athlete to ever finish inside the 25-minute mark in Mars Hill school history. This award is his first Runner of the Week award of the season.
