The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2015 Fall Echols Athletic Excellence Award Standings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate leads the 2015-16 South Atlantic Conference Echols Athletic Excellence Award Standings after the conclusion of the 2015 SAC Fall Regular Season. The Bulldogs won three championships to garner 62 points as they took home the League title in women’s cross country, volleyball and shared the championship in men’s soccer. Wingate also finished in second in women’s soccer.
In second-place is Carson-Newman with 56.5 points. The Eagles claimed the SAC title in women’s soccer, shared the SAC crown in men’s soccer and tied for second in football. Queens is currently No. 3 in the standings with 48 points. The Royals broke Mars Hill’s streak of 18-straight men’s cross country titles as the Royals took home the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Men’s Cross Country Championship.
Anderson stands at No. 4 with 42 points. Lenoir-Rhyne and Lincoln Memorial are tied for the No. 5 spot with 39.5 points each. Catawba claimed the 2015 SAC Football Title en-route to picking up the No. 7 spot with 38.5 points. Mars Hill’s 36 points is good for the No. 8 position, followed by Tusculum with 28.5 points. Brevard comes in at No. 10 with 26 points, while Newberry (21.5 points) and Coker (20 points) round out the list.
The Echols Athletic Excellence Award is presented annually to the member athletic department that earns the highest point total based on cumulative final standings in each of the Conference's 18 sports. Regular season finish is used in the sports of men's and women's soccer, volleyball, football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, men’s and women’s lacrosse, baseball and softball, while SAC Championship results are used for men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf and men’s and women’s outdoor track.
