The South Atlantic Conference Announces Volleyball Elite 20 Honoree
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anna Holmquist from Wingate was named the 2017 South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Elite 20 honoree, the League announced today. This award honors the student-athlete with the top cumulative grade-point average based on a minimum of 48 credit hours who is competing at the final site of each of the Conference's 20 team championship sports
Holmquist, a junior from Lincoln, NE, sports a 3.92 GPA as a political science major. She has earned a spot on the President's List every semester and is a member of the Honors Program. She has also earned a spot on the SAC Honor Roll each of her first two years.
On the volleyball court, Holmquist is a first team All-SAC middle blocker for the top-ranked team in the NCAA Southeast Region. She leads the conference and ranks seventh nationally with a .420 hitting percentage, the second-highest in SAC history. Holmquist is fifth in the league with 1.05 blocks per set, while ranking second on the team with 235 kills on the year, needing just 460 swings.
She plays a key role in a Wingate offense that leads the SAC and ranks in the top 10 nationally in hitting percentage and kills per set. Holmquist had nine kills in 13 swings in two sets of action against Winston-Salem State, hitting .692 while piling up 12 kills and 10 blocks against North Greenville, hitting .600. After registering nine kills in 14 swings without an error at Newberry, Holmquist hit .423 with 13 kills in the sweep against Anderson. She hit .533 with nine kills in the win against Queens while hitting .800 in the LMU sweep, needing just 15 swings to collect her 13 kills. Holmquist hit .500 with 14 kills and four blocks in the Tusculum sweep, while hitting .500 with 13 kills against Mars Hill. She piled up a career-high 18 kills at Carson-Newman in just 25 swings, hitting .680 while adding five blocks.
