SAC Lands Eight on Daktronics All-Region Volleyball Team
A total of eighth student-athletes from the SAC have been selected to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region Volleyball Team, led by Wingate’s Anna Hilton, the region’s Player of the Year.
SAVANNAH, Ga. – A total of eighth student-athletes from the SAC have been selected to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region Volleyball Team, led by Wingate's Anna Hilton, the region's Player of the Year.
Hilton – the two-time defending SAC Player of the Year – also earns All-Region First Team accolades from Daktronics for the third season in a row. The senior hit .346 this year while leading Wingate to both the SAC regular-season and tournament championships, and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Volleyball Championship southeast regional.
Joining Hilton on the All-Region First Team are Tusculum's Caitlyn Dean, Anderson's Shannon Gillespie and fellow Wingate player Lexi Potter. Dean has now garnered All-Region selections in each of her four years at TC, while Gillespie and Potter are receiving the accolades for the first time.
Dean leads the SAC with 703 digs, Gillespie leads the conference with 504 kills, and Potter has the league's top hitting percentage at .377 this season.
Four more SAC players were selected to the Daktronics All-Region Second Team in Wingate's Alison Cooke, Queens' Kari Kemp, Lenoir-Rhyne's Haley Rhyne and Anderson's Hailey Pittman.
All four are among the SAC's statistical leaders this season, as Pittman, Kemp and Rhyne rank third, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the conference in kills, while Cooke's 808 assists are sixth-most in the league.
