Catawba’s Whitmer, Carson-Newman’s Hayes Named SAC Volleyball Weekly Award Winners
Catawba senior Kaitlyn Whitmer and Carson-Newman senior Angelle Hayes have been selected as the SAC volleyball weekly award winners, the league office announced on Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Catawba senior Kaitlyn Whitmer and Carson-Newman senior Angelle Hayes have been selected as the SAC volleyball weekly award winners, the league office announced on Monday.
Whitmer led Catawba to a 2-1 week by averaging 5.42 kills and 3.67 digs per set. She had double-doubles in the Indians' matches with Anderson and Newberry, posting 28 kills and 21 digs in a 3-2 loss to the Trojans followed by 21 kills and 14 digs in a 3-1 win over the Wolves.
The Ferrum, Va., native just missed a double-double in Catawba win at Lenoir-Rhyne, recording 16 kills and nine digs.
Whitmer also added five aces and two blocks on the week. She currently leads the SAC by averaging 4.46 kills per set this season.

Hayes was solid for Carson-Newman last week as well, piling up 57 digs in the Eagles' three matches. Her best performance of the week came in a loss at Lenoir-Rhyne, where the libero finished with 22 digs and two assists.
Hayes also recorded 19 digs and three assists in a loss at Tusculum and 16 digs and two assists in a 3-2 win at Brevard.
Hayes is currently third in the SAC with 524 digs on the season.
