Queens' Alanis Named South Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens' Fatima Alanis has been named the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced on Thursday (June 9).
Alanis, a sophomore from Coahuila, Mexico, earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American Honors in both the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run. She finished second overall in the 5,000-meter at the NCAA National Championship with a time of 16:10.38 and was third in the 10,000-meter with a time of 33:39.14.
She was named the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women's Track Athlete of the Year and was named the 2022 SAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship Athlete of the Meet, after scoring 30 points for the Royals winning the 1,500-meter, 5,000-meter, and 10,000-meter runs.
The SAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year award is determined following the completion of the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championship and is voted on by the league's head coaches.
