The South Atlantic Conference Announces Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, April 13
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate's Gianna Thompson was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Runner of the Week, while Dacia Thompson from Queens was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets April 4-10, the League announced today.
Thompson, a freshman from Piscataway, N.J., ran huge personal record in the 100-meter dash at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational over the weekend as she clocked in at 15.44. The time is currently ranked No. 5 in the South Atlantic Conference. The award is her first Women's Track Runner of the Week nod this season.
Thompson, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., took third-place in the shot put at the Johnson C. Smith Invitational with a throw of 11.95 meters. The distance bettered her own school record of 11.90 meters that she set just a month ago. She also placed first in the discus with a toss of 37.42 meters, while placing seventh in the hammer with a mark of 37 meters. She is currently ranked No. 2 in the League in the shot put and discus as she picks up her first Field Athlete of the Week selection this season.
