The South Atlantic Conference Announces Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, April 6
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens' Nikia Squire was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Runner of the Week, while Haylea Salamon from Lenoir-Rhyne was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets March 28-April 3, the League announced today.
Squire, a senior from Columbia, S.C., turned in an NCAA qualifying time of 23.75 for second place in the 200 meter dash at the Wofford Terrier Relays. Her time currently ranks first in the SAC, third in the nation and is a school record in the event. The honor is her first Runner of the Week nod this season.
Salamon, a sophomore from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, broke the school record in the women's shot put (38'10.5") at High Point University's VertKlasse Meeting last Saturday, finishing 22nd overall (but the top D-II competitor). Salamon also competed in the women's discus (136'11) and the javelin throw (103'4") at the event, placing 13th and 18th overall. Salamon was an All-American in the women's discus last year and was the 2015 SAC Women's Freshman and Co-Field Athlete Of The Year. The honor is her first Field Athlete of the Week selection this season.
