The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the fifth week of the indoor track & field competition. Catawba's Mikayla Jones was named the Track Athlete of the Week while Wingate's Assiya Elhafyan was named the Field Athlete of the Week.
Jones, a junior from Aurora, OH, broke two Catawba school records this week at the Liberty Invite. She finished third in the mile, setting the school record with a time of 5:02.61 and then followed with a new record in the 3000 meter, hitting an NCAA mark running a time of 9:55.00.
Elhafyan, a freshman from Casablanca, Morocco, cleared a personal best 1.71 meters at the USC Garnet Invite on Friday. With multiple NCAA provisional marks this year, she continues to move up the DII high jump charts and is tied for No. 1 in the SAC with teammate Valerie Daehler.
