Twelve SAC Women's Soccer Players Earn D2CCA All-Southeast Region Honors
NEWBERRY, S.C. – Flagler freshman forward Andrea Fernandez has been named the 2021 Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association Women's Soccer Southeast Region Player of the Year and joins two other members of the Saints on the 2021 All-Southeast Region First Team.
A total of 10 institutions had at least one student-athlete named to the 13-member first and second teams. Catawba led the region with six selections, while Flagler was close behind with five honorees.
Lenoir-Rhyne earned three picks along with Columbus State while UNC Pembroke brought in two honors, both to the First Team. Chowan was also able to secure two spots on the team while Wingate, Queens (N.C.), Limestone and Mount Olive each placed one member on the squad.
The D2CCA Player of the Year award and all-region teams are nominated and selected by the region's sports information directors.
The D2CCA encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of high education. The D2CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact NCAA Division II athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
The 13 members of the All-Southeast Region first team will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration. The All-America teams will be released Tuesday, Dec. 7. The complete All-Southeast region teams follow.
