The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2021 Women's Soccer Spring Award Winners
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman University forward Emilee Futrell was voted as the 2021 Spring South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, while Catawba College defender Katie Beck was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Year. Catawba forward Hannah Dunn was selected as the conference Freshman of the Year, and Catawba head coach Nick Brown was voted as the Coach of the Year, the conference announced today.
Futrell, a senior from Wilson, N.C., leads the SAC in goals with six and points with 13. She netted three game-winning goals in six games this season, which also leads the league. For her efforts, she was named SAC AstroTurf Offensive Player of the Week on March 31
Beck, a junior from Clermont, Fla., anchored a Catawba Indian defense that surrendered just two goals in seven matches this spring. In addition to leading the Catawba Indians to a No. 1 seed in the SAC Women's Soccer Spring Tournament, Beck netted a goal and had an assist. She also earned SAC AstroTurf Defensive Player of the Week honors on March 3.
Dunn, a freshman from Concord, N.C., was an offensive threat for the Catawba Indians each time she touched the field. She helped lead Catawba to a 5-1 SAC record this spring, as she scored a goal and registered an assist for three points. Dunn finished the year with 12 shots, six of which were on goal.
Brown led the Catawba Indians to a No. 1 seed in the SAC Women's Soccer Spring Tournament and a record of 5-1 in league play. His team allowed just two goals during regular season play and scored nine goals. They finished second in the league in shots with 110 and were tied for first in goals against average, allowing just 0.38 goals per game.
Joining Futrell, Beck, and Dunnon the All-SAC First Team were forwards Jessica Cravero and Rachel Taylor of Lincoln Memorial.
The first team midfielders were McKenna DeLong of Wingate, Addie Henry of Carson-Newman, and Jovana Sanchez, and Sharon Mayes of Catawba.
On defense, Ria Acton of Lenoir-Rhyne, Kenzie Ellenburg of Tusculum, and Kristen DeBiase of Wingate were named to the first team, while Queens' Erica Turner was named the first team goalkeeper.
