Three South Atlantic Conference Teams Remain in United Soccer Coaches Women's Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The United Soccer Coaches announced its third week of Division II women's soccer regional rankings on Tuesday (Sept. 18), with three teams representing the SAC in the southeast.
Up from fourth in last week's poll is the preseason SAC favorite and 2017 national runner-up Carson-Newman. The No. 3 Eagles have also returned to the national rankings at No. 21. Carson-Newman faced SAC opponent Lenoir-Rhyne in their lone contest of the week, shutting them out 1-0, due in part to the efforts of SAC AstroTurf Defensive Player of the Week, Jackie Burns.
In ninth is Tusculum. The Pioneers defeated Queens 2-1 in their matchup of the week, winning in their first conference game of the season. Goalkeeper Hannah Graham only relented one goal and saved eight shots to protect their lead.
Rounded out the southeast is Catawba. In their 4-1 victory over Newberry, reigning SAC AstroTurf Offensive Player of the Week, Jovana Sanchez, participated in three of them, netting a goal and handing out two assists. The Catawba Indians are a perfect 5-0 and 1-0 in the SAC.
South Atlantic Conference action will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, September 19.
