SAC Lands 11 Women’s Soccer Players on NSCAA All-Region Team
11 women’s soccer student-athletes from the SAC have been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Southeast Region Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
KANSAS CITY – 11 women's soccer student-athletes from the SAC have been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Southeast Region Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Headlining the list were three first-team selections from the SAC: Lenoir-Rhyne keeper Caitlin Scruggs, L-R forward Leah Mullins and Tusculum forward Tramicka James.
Scruggs led a dominant Lenoir-Rhyne defense to both the SAC regular-season and tournament titles, allowing just 0.49 goals per match in 2012. She surrendered just two goals in regular-season conference matches.
Mullins, the SAC Freshman of the Year and Food Lion SAC Championship MVP, finished second in the conference with 13 goals and tied for second in points with 29. She scored both goals in L-R's 2-0 SAC Championship title match victory over Wingate.
James ranked third in the league in 2012 with 11 goals and tied with Mullins for second with 29 points. She helped TC finish third in the conference's regular-season standings.
Five SAC players were named to the NSCAA All-Region Second Team. Three of the SAC's selections came from Lenoir-Rhyne, as defender Brianna Belskey, midfielder, Hanna Kiebel and midfielder Carley Griffin each earned spots. Catawba, meanwhile, placed two on the Second Team in defender Anna Toole and midfielder Juliana Conte.
Finally, three SAC players earned third-team honors in Lenoir-Rhyne defender Amber Madriaga, Newberry midfielder Gabrielle Brodie and Tusculum defender Kourtney Kavic.
