Wingate's Montgomery Named First-Team All-American
Wingate sophomore forward Jade Montgomery has been named a first-team All-American by Daktronics, becoming the first player in WU history to earn the distinction, it was announced Thursday.
INDIANAPOLIS – Wingate sophomore forward Jade Montgomery has been named a first-team All-American by Daktronics, becoming the first player in WU history to earn the distinction, it was announced Thursday.
Montgomery, the 2012 SAC Player of the Year, led the nation with 21 goals during the regular season and ranked second in total points. She had six multi-goal games in 2012, including three hat tricks – one of which came in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Food Lion SAC Soccer Championship in a 4-1 win over Newberry.
The Monroe, N.C. native led Wingate to a 14-3-1 overall record and an 8-1 mark in SAC play. The Bulldogs earned an at-large bid to the 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship.
Lenoir-Rhyne freshman defender Brianna Belsky was also recognized on Thursday by Daktronics, earning honorable mention All-America honors.
Belsky scored three goals and notched five assists in 2012 for the SAC champion Bears.
