10 SAC Women’s Soccer Players Earn All-Region Honors
10 women’s soccer student-athletes from the SAC have been named to the 2012 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Team, led by a conference-high six from Lenoir-Rhyne, it was announced Monday.
BANNER ELK, N.C. – 10 women's soccer student-athletes from the SAC have been named to the 2012 Daktronics All-Southeast Region Team, led by a conference-high six from Lenoir-Rhyne, it was announced Monday.
After winning the 2012 SAC regular season and Food Lion SAC Championship titles, Lenoir-Rhyne had two players earn first-team All-Region honors and four named to the Second Team.
Forward Leah Mullins was a first-team pick after finishing the season with 13 goals and three assists. She joins teammate Brianna Belsky on the First Team. The L-R defender led a unit that allowed just 11 goals all season and also added five assists.
Earning second-team honors from Lenoir-Rhyne were keeper Caitlyn Scruggs, defender Amber Madriaga and midfielders Hanna Keibel and Carley Griffin. Scruggs finished the year ranked fourth in Division II with a .889 save percentage.
Wingate forward Jade Montgomery – the 2012 SAC Player of the Year – was a first-team All-Region selection after leading the SAC with 21 goals and 48 points. Those numbers currently rank first and second in Division II, respectively.
Also earning a spot on the First Team was Newberry midfielder Gabrielle Brodie, the SAC's fourth-leading goal scorer this season with 10.
Wingate defender Kelly Moldenhauer and Tusculum forward Tramicka James were named to the Second Team, rounding out the SAC's All-Region representation. James was the league's third-leading goal scorer this season with 11, while Moldenhauer finished the year with two goals.
