Catawba’s Blake, Telzrow Named to All-State Women’s Soccer Team
MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Twelve student-athletes, representing eight institutions, make up the fourth annual North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Women's Soccer Team, it was announced Monday. Methodist heads the all-state team with three players, while Catawba and Mount Olive have two selections apiece.
Goalkeeper Kathleen Blake and defender Leigh Telzrow helped Catawba to a 12-4-4 record in 2006. The Indians were ranked in the NSCAA Division II Top 25 for much of the season. Blake, a junior from Greensboro, N.C., ranked 22nd in the nation with a 0.82 goals against average. The All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) second team selection tallied 96 saves and 12 shutouts in 20 matches. Telzrow, a senior from Dallas, Texas, was named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region first team and earned All-SAC second team honors. The duo helped Catawba finish among the top 50 in the nation in scoring defense.

The squad consists of students from NCAA Division II and Division III colleges and universities throughout the state. North Carolina sports information professionals submitted nominees and NCCSIA members selected the teams. The all-state unit consists of one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards. All students involved with ties in the voting process are included on the all-state squad.
Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The organization seeks to promote collegiate athletics and student-athletes at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCSSIA selects all-state teams for men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, softball and baseball on the College (Division II, III, NAIA) and University (Division I) levels. More than 400 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
