Lander Tops NCAA Division II Super Region II Men’s Wrestling Preseason Poll
GREENWOOD, S.C. – The NCAA Division II Super Region II men's wrestling preseason rankings were released on Wednesday and Lander topped the rankings with 99 total points.
All 11 Conference Carolinas/South Atlantic Conference institutions make up Super Region II in men's wrestling and nine programs received points in the poll which are based off of how many wrestlers each program has ranked in their individual weight classes. The poll was voted on by league head coaches.
Among all programs, seven teams had five or more wrestlers ranked, four teams had eight or more wrestlers ranked and two programs, Lander and Newberry, had at least one wrestler ranked in all 10 weight classes.
Newberry was second in the poll with 88 points followed by Belmont Abbey (63), UNC Pembroke (58) and Mount Olive (56) to round out the top five.
Lander had four wrestlers ranked No. 1 in their respective weight classes, as Elijah Lusk, Zeth Brower, Logan Hall and Juan Holmes ranked No.1 at 133,141,184 and 285 respectively. Newberry had two wrestlers ranked No. 1 in their weight class, with William Evans (157) and Khris Walton (197) leading the way for the Wolves. Limestone (Kevin Radcliffe-125), King (Demetri Teddie-149), UNC Pembroke (Rashad Vereen-165) and Belmont Abbey (Connor Weeks-174) all had one wrestler ranked No.1 in their respective weight class.
