The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2024 Women's Lacrosse Individual Awards & All-Conference Teams
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Alicia Cannon was selected as the 2024 SAC Attacker of the Year, Wingate's Leah Knowles was named the 2024 SAC Midfielder of the Year, and Limestone's Bailey Stumpf was voted the 2024 SAC Defensive Player of the Year. Anderson's Rayne Dobson was selected as this year's Freshman of the Year and Limestone's Scott Tucker was named the Coach of the Year.
Cannon, a sophomore from Tarzana, Calif., leads the SAC in goals (58) and points (103) while ranking second in assists (45). She has recorded six or more points in six of ten conference games and ranks sixth nationally in points per game as she averages 6.06. Cannon ranks fourth nationally in points with 103 and twelfth in assists with 45. She was named the SAC WePlayed Sports Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts during the week of March 25 and was the 2022-2023 SAC Freshman of the Year.
Knowles, a graduate student from Hickory, N.C., earns her third consecutive SAC Player of the Year honors. She ranks second in the SAC in caused turnovers (36), third in draw controls (85), and fourth in goals (54) and points (67). Knowles is Wingate's all-time leader in goals, points, caused turnovers and draw controls and ranks in the top 30 in the nation in goals, caused turnovers and draw controls. For her efforts this season, she was a four-time SAC WePlayed Sports Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week, earning the honors once for offense and three times for defense.
Stumpf, a senior from Fisherville, Ky., earns back-to-back SAC Defensive Player of the Year honors, leading the SAC in caused turnovers (34), ranking second in ground balls (38) and sixth in draw controls (46). She is the national leader in caused turnovers per game with 3.56 and sits nearly half a turnover higher than the next highest player nationally. Stumpf was named the SAC WePlayed Sports Defensive Player of the Week four times this season, most recently for her efforts on April 22 and three consecutive weeks in a row spanning from February 19 to March 4.
Dobson, a freshman from Houston, TX, ranks third in the SAC in goals (56) and sixth in points (64). She recorded three or more points in seven of ten SAC games and sits third on her team in goals and points. Dobson ranks in the top 30 nationally for goals, sitting at No. 18 and is the fourth-highest freshman in the category.
Tucker enters his 23rd season at the helm of the Limestone women's lacrosse team and sits in the top 10 nationally for wins among active Division II women's lacrosse coaches. He led the Saints to a 15-1 overall record and a 9-1 conference record this season, ranking as high as No. 11 nationally. Tucker earns his first SAC Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year honor since Limestone joined the conference in the 2020-21 academic year. The Saints are currently ranked No. 17 nationally and will host No. 24 Anderson in Wednesday's SAC semifinal match-up.
On the first team attack is Anderson's Alicia Cannon, Wingate's Kaleigh Wilgeroth and Nelida Watson, and Limestone's Megan Davis. On the first team midfield is Wingate's Leah Knowles and Claire Fuchs, Limestone's Reese Hjertaas, and UVA Wise's Mallory Trimble. On the defensive line is Limestone's Bailey Stumpf, Wingate's Katie Koroly, Anderson's Katy Snyder, and Lincoln Memorial's Delaney Duck. Wingate's Megan Biase captured the first team goalkeeper accolade.
The 2024 SAC Women's Lacrosse Championship will take place at the Sportsplex at Matthews in Matthews, N.C. on April 28th.
