Wingate's Knowles and UVA-Wise's Darrington Earn South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its Varsity Gems Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played in the twelfth week of the 2023 season. Wingate's Leah Knowles was named the offensive player of the week and UVA-Wise's Kameryn Darrington was named the defensive player of the week.
Knowles, a senior from Hickory, N.C., wrapped up the 2022-23 regular season by piling up eight points as No. 10 Wingate capped a perfect SAC season to claim the outright regular season SAC title. The All-American piled up seven goals and an assist to lead the 'Dogs past the No. 25 Saints 19-10, adding seven draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball on the day.
Darrington, a fifth-year senior from Dumfries, Va., led the team in a 14-7 win over Catawba with four groundballs and four caused turnovers. She secured her first career goal in the final two minutes of the contest to solidify the win for the Cavaliers.
