THREE-PEAT: Anderson Women's Golf Wins Third Straight SAC Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- For the third straight season, the Anderson Trojans are the South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Champions. The Trojans completed the three-peat with a commanding 24-shot victory. Anderson's 879 bested Limestone's 903 in the three-day tournament. Lincoln Memorial's Dilyara Bulambayeva was the Individual Medalist, winning the tournament by one shot over Anderson's Aly Francis. Each player shot a +4 on the day as Bulambayeva held on for the win.
Unsurprisingly, Anderson had all five of their golfers finish in the top 11 at the tournament. Trailing Francis was teammates Jessica Rathbone and Kennedy McGaha who both finished the tournament with scores of 222 (+9). Kennedy Gooding finished 10th with a 223 and Zoey Iglesias was 11th and one shot behind Gooding.
Bulambayeva put herself in the lead for an individual medalist with her 70 on day two of the tournament. She finished with a 75 on day three to card her 218.
Trailing Anderson was Limestone and then three teams tied for third place. Catawba, Lincoln Memorial and Wingate all finished with scores of 906, three shots behind second-place Limestone. Carson-Newman was sixht with a 919 and Lenoir-Rhyne finished seventh at 926. Newberry took eighth (930), followed by Tusculum (954), Coker (969), Emory & Henry (999), Mars Hill (1043) and UVA Wise (1069).
With the win, Anderson punches its ticket to the 2024 NCAA South Region Tournament. Stay tuned for the NCAA's announcement of the field.
