Anderson Leads After Day One of SAC Women's Golf Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Anderson Trojans fired a five-over-par 289 as a team to take a 13-shot lead over the Wingate Bulldogs and Catawba Indians (+18, 302) in the opening round of the 2024 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, N.C. on Sunday (April 14). In this round a season ago, Anderson shot a 283 which was a SAC Women's Golf Championship single-round team record.
Following the Trojans, Bulldogs and Indians in fourth place is Lincoln Memorial (+20, 304) with Carson-Newman in fifth at 308 (+25) and Newberry in sixth place at 310 (+26). Limestone is in seventh at 315 (+31) followed by Lenoir-Rhyne in eighth at 315 (+31) and Emory & Henry in ninth at 326 (+42). Rounding out the field is Tusculum in tenth at 327 (+43), Coker in 11th at 328 (+44), UVA Wise in 12th at 356 (+72) and Mars Hill in 13th at 359 (+75).
Individually, Anderson's Kennedy Gooding leads the field after day one for the second straight season. Last year she tied a SAC Women's Golf Championship single-round score with a six-under-par 66. This year she was even-par with a 71. Three golfers are tied for second at one-over-par 72; Anderson's Zoey Iglesias, Wingate's Jess Brown and Anderson's Aly Francis.
