Anderson Takes the Lead After the First Round of the 2023 SAC Women's Golf Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Anderson Trojans fired a five-under-par 283 as a team to take a 17-shot lead over the Wingate Bulldogs (+12, 300) in the opening round of the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship at Cobbs Glen Country Club in Anderson, S.C. on Sunday (April 2). Anderson's 283 is a new SAC Women's Golf Championship single-round team record.
Following the Trojans and Bulldogs in third place is Limestone (+13, 301) with Carson-Newman in fourth at 304 (+16) and Newberry and Lincoln Memorial tied for fifth at 18-over-par (306). Tusculum is in seventh at 307 (+19) followed by Catawba in eighth at 314 (+26) and Lenoir-Rhyne in ninth at 320 (+32). Rounding out the field is Coker in tenth at 324 (+36), UVA Wise in 11th at 345 (+57), and Mars Hill in 12th at 351 (+63).
Individually, Anderson's Kennedy Gooding leads the field after firing a six-under-par 66, tying a SAC Women's Golf Championship single-round record. Two golfers are tied for second at one-under-par 71: Carson-Newman's Maeve Cummins, and Nilubol Panno of Tusculum.
