Catawba's Thorne Named to D2CCA All-American First Team
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) announced the 2024 Women's Basketball All-American Teams on Tuesday (March 26). Catawba's Lyrik Thorne was named to the D2CCA All-American First Team, marking the first SAC player to earn the honors since Anderson's Alexy Mollenhauer in 2020.
The graduate student guard was recently named the D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year and became the first player in SAC history to collect both the SAC Player of the Year and SAC Defensive Player of the Year awards this season. Under her guide, the Catawba Indians earned the 2024 SAC Regular Season title and were awarded the No. 1 seed in the Southeast Regional as they hosted the tournament for the second year in a row.
Thorne adds her name to the top of Catawba's record book as the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,169 career points while sitting fifth all-time in the SAC. During the 2023-24 season, she led the conference in scoring at 19.3 points per game, ranked second in steals at 2.1 per game, and third in assists with 4.9 per game.
