ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The fourth-seeded Wingate University Bulldogs used an incredible 25-3 run to close out the first half Friday afternoon en route to an 85-69 victory over third-seeded Carson-Newman University in the championship game of the 2024 South Atlantic Conference women's basketball tournament. The 'Dogs claim their 11th SAC tournament championship, improving to 22-9 overall, while the Eagles fall to 22-9 on the season.
The win marks a league-best 11 SAC Tournament Championship titles and the first SAC tourney title since 2017 for the 'Dogs. Wingate's Laney Beale and Hannah Clark and Carson-Newman's Campbell Penland all scored a game-high 18 points each. Beale and Carson-Newman's Makayla Alvey each recorded a double-double on the night.
For her efforts, Clark was named the 2024 SAC Tournament MVP and a member of the SAC All-Tournament Team, while teammates Beale and Anna Baraldi earned All-Tournament honors as well. The full list of All-Tournament members can be found below:
