HICKORY, N.C. – For the second consecutive year, Alexy Mollenhauer of Anderson (S.C.) University has been selected as the Southeast Regional Player of the Year.
Mollenhauer, the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and first-team All-SAC selection, averaged 19.7 points, 12.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals per game during the season while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor en route to regional player of the year honors. Mollenhauer led the Trojans to a SAC regular season championship and a spot in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
Joining Mollenhauer on the first team is Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year Julianne Sutton (North Georgia) and Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Shanika Peterkin (Barton). Peterkin also earned Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year accolades and averaged a double-double with 18.5 points and 12.3 rebounds while shooting 56.3 percent from the field. Additionally, first-team All-SAC forward Kayla Marosites (Carson-Newman) moves up to the first team after being a second-team selection in 2018-19 and becomes the second consecutive first-team selection from Carson-Newman. Jessica Harris (Lander) rounds out the first team and was a first-team All-PBC selection after ranking in the top 10 in the nation in steals and was in the top 10 in the conference in 10 statistical categories. Harris led Lander to regular season and conference tournament championships in her senior season.
The second team is made up of a duo of All-SAC selections in Braelyn Wykle (Carson-Newman) and Mia Long (Tusculum). Rounding out the All-Southeast second team is two All-Conference Carolinas selections in Breanna Locke (Emmanuel) and Maria Kuhlman (Belmont Abbey) along with a pair of All-PBC honorees Taneria Wilson (Clayton State) and Kwajelin Farrar (USC Aiken).
Second team ties were not broken, resulting in a six-member all-region team.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Southeast Region schools and conferences selected the two D2CCA All-Southeast Region teams. The process concludes with All-America selections announced later in the month.
