Madison Lenox Earns D2CCA All-America Honors
HUNTSVILLE, ALA. – Senior women's basketball player, Madison Lenox (Raleigh, N.C.) has capped off her sensational career as being named to the 2016-17 Division II Conference Commissioners Association Women's Basketball All-American Third Team, it was announced on Monday. Lenox is the first student-athlete in Brevard's NCAA era to earn this illustrious honor.
"What an unbelievable person," said head women's basketball Donald Hudson. "Madison has put together a stellar career at Brevard College. She has put up great numbers and competed at the highest level, but the thing that I am most proud of is the person she is off the court. Very humble, caring, and down to earth. It's been a pleasure to work with her over the past four years."
Lenox is the only player from the South Atlantic Conference named to the All-American team, after a story-book senior campaign. The Raleigh native finished ninth in the nation in points per game, averaging 20.5 per game a mark that led the SAC. The senior also collected 9.3 rebounds per game (fourth best in conference), averaged 1.9 blocks, and 2.9 steals which rank fourth and second respectively in the league. The senior recorded 11 double-doubles this season.
"Madison has been a tremendous player for us throughout her career," said Vice President for Strategic Planning and Athletics Director Juan Mascaro. "I can't think of anyone more deserving of being Brevard's first NCAA Women's Basketball All-American. The way she has grown as a player and as a person during her four years here is a perfect example of what being a student-athlete is all about. I'm so proud of her and all she has accomplished academically and athletically."
This season, Lenox scored 532 points and averaged 20.5 points per game, shattering both school records set by Samantha Winn in 2009-10. In November, she passed Winn as Brevard's all-time leading scorer, finishing with 1697 points over 3279 minutes played to average 16.3 points per game over her career. Lenox's versatility also led her to go down as Brevard's all-time leading rebounder with 646 rebounds, along with her 248 assists, 126 blocked shots, and 229 steals are all marks that rank second all-time.
Madison Lenox is not only an impressive leader on the court, but outside the playing field. Lenox serves as the Student Athlete Advisory Committee President, Vice President of the Business Club, and Treasurer of the Dimensions Club at Brevard College. Lenox posts a 3.96 GPA and holds the highest academic performance for the business and organizational leadership major. In 2015, she was named to the Capitol One Academic All-District Team. Madison is a member of the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society and has been named to the Brevard College Dean's list every semester while attending Brevard.
