Mars Hill’s Abby DeBusk Named Women’s Basketball Academic All-American
MARS HILL, NC - Mars Hill College senior guard Abby DeBusk has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Third Team that was released by CoSIDA on Tuesday. DeBusk was named a first team All-South Atlantic Conference member yesterday.
DeBusk is a 5-9 senior from New Tazewell, TN. On the basketball court she leads the team in scoring (17.1 ppg) and assists (3.7 apg) and is third in free throw percentage (.783) and rebounding (6.0 rpg). In the South Atlantic Conference, Abby ranks second in scoring, first in 3-point percentage (.479), eleventh in rebounding, eighth in assists and free throw percentage and seventh in field goal percentage (.511). Abby has twice been named SAC Player of the Week this season along with receiving first team All-SAC honors.
This year Abby also entered the Mars Hill 1,000-point club and is currently the 12th all-time scorer (1,321 pts) in the history of the women's basketball program. She also broke the Mars Hill school career assist record (442) that was set back in 1987. Debusk currently has 455 career assists.
In the classroom, Abby carries 3.84 cumulative grade point average. She is majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Pre-Professional Studies.
