Presbyterian’s Wessinger, Campbell Named to ESPN The Magazine Women’s Basketball Academic All-District Team
CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College women's basketball players Rebecca Wessinger and Wesley Campbell have been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine® Academic All-District III Women's Basketball Teams announced today.
Wessinger, a 5-9 senior forward from Laurens, S.C., was named to the first team for the second straight year. She started all 22 games this season and currently leads her team and ranks fourth in the South Atlantic Conference in scoring (15.9 ppg). She is also averaging 4.2 rpg, 2.2 apg while shooting 46.5% from the field, 39.5% from three-point range, and 77.4% from the free throw line. This season she has scored 20+ points on six occasions has scored in double figures in 18 of 22 games and ranks 5th in field goal percentage, 9th in free throw percentage, 10th in field goal percentage, and 12th in the SAC in offensive rebounding.
In the classroom, she carries a cumulative GPA of 3.94 while majoring in biology. She has been selected to the South Atlantic Conference Academic Honor for three straight years, while being named to the school's Dean's List (3.3 GPA) for four semesters and to the President's List (4.0 GPA) for three semesters.
Wessinger will now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration. Members of the Academic All-District team are determined by a vote by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from District III.
Campbell, a 6-0 senior forward from Greenville, S.C., was named to the second team after averaging 8.6 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.8 apg and shooting 34.8% from the field, 30.1% from three-point range, and 77.2% from the free throw line. She currently ranks 11th in the SAC in rebounding, 27th in scoring, 4th in free throw percentage, 14th in three-point field goal percentage, T-4th in defensive rebounds, and T-12th in made three-pointers per game.
In the classroom, Campbell carries a cumulative GPA of 3.83, while majoring in biology. She has been selected to the South Atlantic Conference Academic Honor for three straight years, while being named to the school's Dean's List (3.3 GPA) for six semesters and to the President's List (4.0 GPA) for one semester.
