The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Softball Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Softball Players of the Week for games played during the eleventh week of the 2024 season. Carson-Newman's Macauley Bailey was named the Player of the Week while Anderson's Laken Maxwell was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Bailey, a sophomore from Cross Plains, Tenn., led the Eagles to five victories on the week including two sweeps over Converse and Emory & Henry. She recorded seven runs, eleven hits, two doubles, three homers, and 14 RBI while hitting .478 with a .458 on base percentage and a .957 slugging percentage. With 14 home runs this season, Bailey is in a three-way tie for the most in the SAC this year.
Maxwell, a senior from Bowdon, Ga., earned three wins on the week while helping Anderson go 4-0 and push their overall SAC record to 16-2. In Maxwell's two starts, she only allowed three hits while striking out 18 and 15 batters, respectively. She returned to action in both game two's, earning her third win on the week and collecting eight more strikeouts for a total of 41 on the week. Maxwell gave up just five hits in 17.2 innings pitched, including a one-hitter vs Coker. She boasted a 0.40 ERA for the week.
