Six SAC Teams Represented in Easton/NFCA Academic Honor Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The NFCA, in combination with Easton, announced their 2017-18 Academic Team rankings and Scholar-Athlete honors on Wednesday (Oct. 3). Six South Atlantic Conference teams made an appearance on either the team or individual list, with 48 student-athletes receiving recognition, including eight with a 4.0 GPA.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the Association's membership categories. Individually, 6,280 softball players earned Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors. Division II had 1,026 student-athletes earn a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for the year.
As teams, Catawba ranked 11th of the 75 teams listed, earning a 3.625 GPA, missing a top-10 finish by just .002. Wingate finished 28th with a 3.527 GPA. Lincoln Memorial was 41st with their 3.430 GPA. Newberry claimed 48th with a 3.360 GPA. Anderson rounded out the SAC teams in 57th with a respectable 3.300 GPA.
Queens led the way, on an individual basis, with 11 student-athletes being named a scholar-athlete. The Bulldogs and Wolves had 10 each. The Railsplitters had nine on their roster acknowledged. Eight members of the Trojan team had their name listed.
