Wingate Sweeps South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Wingate first baseman Mikayla Hannah has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Player of the Week, and Wingate right-handed pitcher Rachel Weidner has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played April 9-15, the League announced today.

Hannah, a senior from Lancaster, S.C., led the Bulldogs to a perfect 6-0 week, including SAC doubleheader sweeps of Catawba and Lincoln Memorial. She batted .444 for the week with three homers, three doubles, 11 RBI, four runs scored and three walks. She had a streak of three straight games with a home run, including a two-run blast that gave the Bulldogs a 4-2 win over Catawba. She also went 3-for-3 with three doubles and six RBI against Lincoln Memorial in the final home game of her Wingate career.

Weidner, a junior from Greenville, N.C., picked up three of the Bulldogs six wins last week, all in relief. She threw four scoreless innings against Catawba, allowing just two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. She then threw another inning of scoreless softball against Lincoln Memorial, allowing one lone hit with a strikeout. She closed out the week with a scoreless four-inning performance in game two against LMU. She gave up one hit with two walks and a strikeout in the win. 

This is Hannah's first Player of the Week honor this season, while this is the first Pitcher of the Week accolade for Weidner this season.
