2012 SAC Softball Championship All-Tournament Team Announced
ROCK HILL, S.C. - A day after Lenoir-Rhyne's thrilling victory over Anderson in the 2012 Food Lion SAC Softball Championship title game, the All-Tournament Team has been announced, headlined by Most Valuable Player Dawon Millwood of L-R.
Millwood went 4-0 at the Championship for Lenoir-Rhyne, giving up just four runs in 26 innings pitched to go along with 12 strikeouts. She had the Championship's lowest ERA at 1.08.
Millwood, the SAC's regular season Pitcher of the Year, threw all seven innings in Sunday's title game to earn the win.
Joining Millwood on the All-Tournament Team from Lenoir-Rhyne were outfielder Brittany Coursen, third baseman Haily Jarman and infielder Jody Mizelle.
Mizelle turned in the highlight of the Championship, hitting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Sunday to lift L-R to the title. On the week, Mizelle hit .462 with three RBI.
Coursen, meanwhile, had the Championship's highest batting average at .636, while Jarman hit .400 with three extra-base hits.
Runner-up Anderson had three selections in pitcher/infielder Amber Duncan, infielder Bri Cason and outfielder Rachel Rhodes.
Duncan went 3-2 with a 1.45 ERA in the circle for the Trojans, while Rhodes hit .444 and Cason scored four runs.
Catawba's Ali Justice, Amanda Terry and Tara Gibbs earned spots on the team, as did Carson-Newman's Bri Shoemake and Mary Shealy.
Shoemake tied L-R's Coursen for the Championship lead with seven hits, Shealy had the most RBI with eight and home runs with three, and Terry led the event with three doubles.
Rounding out the All-Tournament Team was Mars Hill's Natalie Haithcox, who hit an even .500 at the Championship with a home run and a double.
