SAC Commissioner Britz Receives Contract Extension
South Atlantic Conference commissioner Patrick Britz has received a contract extension set to run through the 2015-16 academic year, the conference’s Presidents Council has announced.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – South Atlantic Conference commissioner Patrick Britz has received a contract extension set to run through the 2015-16 academic year, the conference's Presidents Council has announced.
"Commissioner Britz is well-respected and is a great representative of the SAC at the local, regional and national levels," said Tusculum president and SAC Presidents Council chair Dr. Nancy B. Moody. "As a vote of confidence, the Presidents Council voted unanimously to extend a new three-year contract."
Britz is beginning his sixth year as SAC commissioner and is credited with successfully guiding the conference through its most recent membership expansion. The SAC added Coker College and Queens University of Charlotte in 2012, with the two schools officially becoming league members earlier this month. The SAC's current size of 12 member institutions is the largest in its history.
Britz also led the addition of four new championship sports starting in 2013-14. The SAC will now sponsor men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's outdoor track and field and women's outdoor track and field, bringing the total number of sponsored sports to 18.
Among Britz's additional contributions to the SAC have been the development of the SAC Student-Athlete Leadership Conference, an enhancement of the conference's awards program and an extensive revision of league bylaws and sport policies.
"I would like to thank Dr. Moody and the other members of the Presidents Council for their continued support," said Britz. "I'm excited about the future of the SAC and feel we can continue enhancing the student-athlete experience while simultaneously preparing them for life beyond college."
