JOPLIN, Mo. – Mars Hill freshman Alex Griggs and Wingate junior Keeley Wood competed on Saturday at the 2012 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship on the campus of Missouri Southern State University. Griggs placed 138th overall in the men's race, while Wood finished 103rd in the women's event.
In the 10K men's championship, Griggs' pace of 31:54.7 was the 16th-best time of any freshman in the country. It was also a personal best for Griggs – six seconds better than his performance at the NCAA Southeast Region Championship, where he placed fifth overall.
Wood, meanwhile, also set a personal-record in the women's 6K race, finishing with a time of 22:21.8. She was the top finisher of any runner from the Southeast Region.
