The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets contested during the second week of the indoor track & field season. Wingate's Hamza Chahid earned the track honor while Mars Hill's Jesse Shelton earned the field honor.
Chahid, a sophomore from Casablanca, Morocco, won the 5000 meters with a time of 13:56.45 at the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open on Friday. His mark is a new Wingate school record and an NCAA Division II provisional time. Chahid's 5000 meters time is also good for seventh on the NCAA Division II season performance list.
Shelton, a freshman from Mars Hill, N.C., set two new school records at the Bast-Cregger Invitational over the weekend. He placed first overall in shot put, while establishing a new school record of 17.40m (57' 1") and hitting a NCAA DII provisional mark. Shelton followed with a record-breaking throw in weight throw, placing second overall with a throw of 14.76m (48' 5.25").
