Queens Captures 2021 SAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship
HICKORY, N.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Queens University of Charlotte men's outdoor track & field team captured the 2021 SAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday (April 25). The Royals posted a team score of 182 to capture the championship.
Following the Royals were the Wingate Bulldogs with 150 points and the Carson-Newman Eagles came in third with 130.5 points. Limestone placed fourth with 97 points, followed by Catawba with 88 points in fifth, and Tusculum in sixth with 51 points.
Lenoir-Rhyne placed seventh with 33 points, while Coker was close behind with 29 points in eighth. Rounding out the meet were Anderson in ninth with 17 points, Newberry in 10th with 15 points, Mars Hill in 11th with 13.5 points and Lincoln Memorial in 12th with 10 points.
Capturing individual awards were Carson-Newman's Sterling Melancon who was named SAC Freshman of the Year, while Limestone's Javaris Michael was named the Track Athlete of the Meet, and Queens' Martin Knauer was named Field Athlete of the Meet. Queens' head coach Jim Vahrenkamp was named the SAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
Melancon placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.50, and he was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.28.
Michael won the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.34 and placed second in the 200-meter with a time of 21.07.
Knauer placed third in the hammer with a toss of 48.46 meters, was second in the javelin with a throw of 52.36 meters, he won the shot put with an 18.21-meter toss, and he was second in the discus with a throw of 49.53 meters.
