Queens' Meckes Wins Javelin National Championship and All-Americans Highlight Final Day of Outdoor Track & Field National Championship

Meckes Wins NCAA DII Javelin National Championship
KINGSVILLE, Texas – Ricko Meckes of the Queens University of Charlotte men's track and field team recorded a toss of 71.28-meters to win the national championship in the javelin throw. The Royals totaled 19 points to finish tied for 14th at the NCAA DII Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Entering the Championships ranked first in the javelin throw with a mark of 74.25-meters, Meckes won his first-ever national championship recording his mark of 71.28-meters on his third throw of the day. His all-American first-place finish secured 10 points for the Royals.
Martin Knauer earned all-American second team honors in the shot put with a mark of 17.75-meters which he recorded on his first throw of the day. He completed the event in 11th place.
Additionally, Felix Wammetsberger earned all-American first team honors in the 1,500-meter run placing third in 3:58.90. Daniel Wallis also ran in the race finishing 11th in 4:01.17. He received all-American second team honors. Wammetsberger's finish added six points to the Royals' point total.
Wallis also raced in the 5,000-meter run tonight earning all-American first team honors with a sixth-place finish in 14:29.60. He collected three points for Queens with his finish.
Queens' women finished tied for 39th at the Championships after Elise Hoel Ulseth earned all-American honors with a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon yesterday.
Moore's pair of first-team All-America sprints highlights C-N's NCAA Championships finale
KINGSVILLE, Texas – Devon Moore (Baxley, Ga.) tallied two of Carson-Newman's three All-America plaudits in the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Saturday night at Javelinas Stadium.
The sophomore took first-team honors in both the 100 and 200-meter events while Luke Greer (Northampton, England) added on a second-team performance in the nightcap's 5,000 meter.
As a whole, Carson-Newman ended up 18th in the nation on the team scoreboard. The Eagles brought in 16 points throughout the three days.
Moore started the Eagles' day with a 10.32-second dash in the 100 meter, good enough for bronze in the event. He was just .15 seconds out of first with Tiffin's Jonte Baker taking gold.
Just over an hour later, he returned to the track for the 200-meter final. He finished in 21.19 seconds for a second-straight third-place finish on the day.
Moore now has two All-America laurels in his career outdoor campaign. He is now the ninth and 10th All-American sprinter for the team since 2016.
Greer closed out his career with one final showing in the 5K, producing a 14:42.57 time. His 11th-best time was just enough to land in All-America territory.
The senior sat in seventh by the 2,200 meter-mark with a 6:17.74 time, but he fell down the 12th with a 1:12.14 split at 3,000 meters.
The second-team honor marked his second All-American performance of the week.
