BOCA RATON, FLA. - The No. 3 seed Wingate Bulldogs took down the No. 2 seed Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, 3-1, on Thursday (Dec. 5) evening in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Super Region 2 tournament. With the win, the Bulldogs advance to the region final against No. 1 seed Lynn on Saturday (Dec. 7) at 6 p.m.
All three Bulldog goals came in the second half and all three involved SAC Freshman of the Year, Paul Ngongo, or first team All-SAC performer, Elliot Cutts.
Ngongo netted the first goal of the game in the 52nd minute with an assist from Cutts. The Sailfish then tied the game at one with a goal in the 61st minute.
Cutts put home the eventual game-winner on the penalty kick in the 74th minute, and Ngongo gave the Bulldogs some insurance with his second goal of the match in the 83rd minute.
Wingate keeper Jens Bergendorff picked up the win in the goal, making three saves in the match.
