Five South Atlantic Conference Teams Hold Steady in United Soccer Coaches Men's Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The United Soccer Coaches announced its eighth week of Division II men's soccer regional rankings on Tuesday (Oct. 23), with five teams continuing to represent the SAC in the southeast.
Holding steady at No. 4 once again is Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bears had a perfect 2-0 week, beating both conference foe Catawba 4-1 and shutting out non-conference opponent Belmont Abbey 3-0. Both Ignacio de Goya and Goncalo Garcia scored in each game.
Queens University of Charlotte scaled to the No. 5 hole in the southeast after blanking Wingate 4-0 and routing Newberry 5-1. The Royals swept SAC AstroTurf Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors as well. Edmundo Robinson scored three goals and collected an assist, while Pedro Oliveira led the defensive stand and netted a goal.
Dropping to No. 7 is Carson-Newman after going 0-1-1 during the week. The Eagles drew a tie with Mars Hill and were shutout by regionally-ranked Wingate 2-0. Jonny Le Quesne scored the lone goal.
Lincoln Memorial maintains its No. 8 rank for the third week with a win and a tie. The Railsplitters earned a 2-1 victory over Tusculum and a 1-1 tie versus Coker. Victor Peres played a role in every goal, scoring two and assisting on the other.
Wingate moved up a spot to the No. 9 position after splitting the week's competition against regionally-ranked conference opponents. The Bulldogs lost 4-0 at Queens and won 2-0 over Carson-Newman.
South Atlantic Conference action will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, October 24.
