Five South Atlantic Conference Teams Remain in United Soccer Coaches Men's Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The United Soccer Coaches announced its sixth week of Division II men's soccer regional rankings on Tuesday (Oct. 9), with five teams representing the SAC in the southeast.
Gaining two spot to now lead the conference, Lenoir-Rhyne is now No. 4 after winning the two SAC matches during the week. The Bears downed both Coker 4-1 and previously nationally-ranked Queens 3-2. Victor Cascon netted three goals, including the eventual game-winner over the Royals.
Queens University of Charlotte dropped to fifth in the southeast. On the week, the Royals defeated Anderson 1-0 in double overtime and lost to regionally-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne. Edmundo Robinson scored the game-winner over the Trojans and one against the Bears.
Holding at No. 6 is Carson-Newman. The Eagles lost to Tusculum 1-0 and drew a 1-1 tie with Anderson. Ashley Kelynack is credited with the lone goal of the week.
Lincoln Memorial returns to the ranks at No. 8 after shutting out two conference opponents. Goalkeeper Caleb Cothrin earned SAC AstroTurf Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the 2-0 win at Mars Hill and 3-0 win versus regionally-ranked Wingate.
Wingate dropped to the No. 9 spot after an even week, going 1-1. The Bulldogs defeated Catawba 5-1 and were shutout 3-0 at regionally-ranked Lincoln Memorial. Nate Evans scored twice and Oscar Perez collected a goal and an assist.
South Atlantic Conference action will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, October 10.
