Five South Atlantic Conference Teams Remain in United Soccer Coaches Men's Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The United Soccer Coaches announced its third week of Division II men's soccer regional rankings on Tuesday (Sept. 18), with five teams representing the SAC in the southeast.
Preseason favorite, Wingate, leads the way for the conference at No. 4 for second consecutive week. The Bulldogs won 2-0 versus Mars Hill in their first SAC contest in 2018. With solid efforts on both sides of the pitch, Wingate allowed only one shot on goal, while going 2 for 3 in their attempts.
Queens University of Charlotte is in the fifth spot after picked up a 3-2 road win against conference foe Tusculum. The Royals are now 4-1 on the season after winning their SAC opener in the 90th minute. Liam Doyle scored twice to tie it up and assisted on the game-winning goal from Alberto Morales.
Lenoir-Rhyne moved up a spot to sixth after defeating regionally ranked Carson-Newman 1-0. SAC AstroTurf Defensive Player of the Week, Alexander Langer, recorded his first career shutout against the Eagles, collecting two saves in the effort.
Dropping down two spots to seventh is Carson-Newman. In their 1-0 loss to regionally ranked Lenoir-Rhyne, the Eagles fired off two shots on goals and saved four shots on the defensive end.
Lincoln Memorial rounds out the region in the No. 10 spot. In their thrilling 3-2 double overtime win over King, Felipe de Sousa, SAC AstroTurf Offensive Player of the Week, found the back of the net and assisted on the golden goal scored in the 105th minute of action.
